Here are just a few of the ways in which the system is rigged:
- Wealth inequality is at its highest level in over a century. The top 1% of Americans own more wealth than the bottom 90% combined. This means that young people from wealthy families have a huge advantage over young people from poor families.
- The cost of education has skyrocketed. The average cost of tuition and fees at a four-year public college has increased by more than 250% since 1985. This makes it impossible for many young people to afford a college education.
- Healthcare costs are also rising rapidly. The average American family now spends more than $20,000 per year on healthcare. This makes it difficult for young people to afford the healthcare they need.
- Housing is becoming increasingly unaffordable. The median home price in the United States is now over $400,000. This makes it difficult for young people to buy a home.
- Climate change is threatening the future of our planet. Young people are particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, such as rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and food shortages.
The system is rigged against young people, and it is destroying their lives. We need to take action to fix this system and create a more just and equitable society.
Here are some things we can do to help:
- Invest in education. We need to make college more affordable and accessible to all students. We also need to improve the quality of K-12 education.
- Expand healthcare access. We need to make healthcare more affordable and accessible to all Americans. We can do this by expanding Medicaid and Medicare, and by creating a public option.
- Make housing more affordable. We need to build more affordable housing and provide rent control. We can also help people buy homes by providing down payment assistance and low-interest loans.
- Address climate change. We need to take action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the effects of climate change. We can do this by investing in renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, and protecting our forests.
We need to take action now to fix the system and create a more just and equitable society. The future of our country depends on it.
